RESET (formerly Celebrate Recovery Brookings) midweek meetings will resume later this year. To connect with recovery support resources, contact Pastor Serenity at smiller@gracepointwesleyan.org.
During the COVID-19 crisis, some estimates say relapse rates have been as high as 30%—and we certainly haven’t been immune in Brookings! Struggles with marriage and parenting, anxiety and depression, fear and isolation, addictions and compulsions, jobs and finances, grieving and losses, health and hope... After the year we’ve been through, who isn’t ready for a RESET?
RESET—a Christ-centered 12-Step recovery ministry--will resume in 2021. The purpose of RESET is to share space in the struggles and to celebrate God's healing power in our lives. We break the bondage of the past by sharing our experience, strength, and hope with each other, pointing one another toward freedom in Jesus Christ!
Each week will begin with a time of worship to set the tone, then share a teaching or testimony on the biblical principles of the 12 Steps, followed by co-ed group discussion around a focus question for the evening. A time of prayer will be offered after the meeting, for those who wish to join in.
With the Christ-centered 12 Steps and 8 Biblical Principles as our roadmap, we learn to recognize our hurts, hang-ups, and habits—knowing we all experience weaknesses and temptations. We face up to our poor choices and deal with the things we can do something about. We accept personal responsibility. We choose how we respond to what happens to us. We step into the healing power of God Almighty and trust Him to change our lives!
For those feeling led to dig deeper in accountability and discipleship, beyond the weekly gathering, we also expect to offer a number of men’s and women’s step study groups throughout the year. These groups work through the 12 Steps of Spiritual Recovery together using Celebrate Recovery materials. Details will be shared as step studies become available.
What RESET is not:
• A place to judge
• A place to "fix" people
• A place for gossip
• A place to feel ashamed or keep secrets
• A place to find a date
What RESET is:
• A safe environment, agreeing to confidentiality
• A community of others who've struggled
• A way to share your story, from darkness into light
• An opportunity to tell what Christ has done in your life
• A place to be who you are and celebrate God's love for people
RESET meetings commit to being a CONFIDENTIAL environment. You are welcome to share about your own involvement in this group, not anyone else’s. What you hear here, let it stay here!
If you would like a Celebrate Recovery Study Bible, a set of CR step study books, or information about connecting with an accountability partner to walk through this process one-on-one, please contact Pastor Serenity at smiller@gracepointwesleyan.org.
