GracePoint Church is hiring a full-time Discipleship and First Impressions Pastor. GracePoint is a thriving Wesleyan church in Brookings, South Dakota, a vibrant community of approximately 25,000 people. Home to South Dakota State University, the state's largest university with over 12,000 students, Brookings offers the energy of a college town combined with the charm of small-town living. GracePoint averages 2,500 in Sunday attendance and continues to experience sustained growth. During the school year, we have three Sunday morning services, one which is live-streamed, and a Sunday evening service for college students and young adults.
As the Discipleship and First Impressions Pastor you will be responsible for creating, overseeing, and implementing the discipleship pathway and ensuring a welcoming, engaging experience for all who come to GracePoint. This position will collaborate with church leadership to help cultivate spiritual growth, structured discipleship, and hospitality (first impressions) at GracePoint.

As the Discipleship and First Impressions Pastor you will be responsible for creating, overseeing, and implementing the discipleship pathway and ensuring a welcoming, engaging experience for all who come to GracePoint. This position will collaborate with church leadership to help cultivate spiritual growth, structured discipleship, and hospitality (first impressions) at GracePoint.
Core Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- I. Oversee the Discipleship Pathway process
- Oversee and help develop a structured approach to discipleship. This will include helping us develop a 12-week structured introduction to discipleship around the mission of encounter grace, grow in grace, and give grace alongside of the lead pastor.
- Recruit, train, and mentor leaders developing them as shepherds of the people they are leading in these discipleship meetings, classes and seminars.
- Select or develop curriculum that aligns with the church's mission and direction from executive leadership regarding the discipleship pathway.
- II. First Impressions:
- Oversee all aspects of the guest experience, ensuring that first-time visitors feel welcomed and connected alongside the connections pastor.
- Oversee the Discover GracePoint meeting in tandem with Ministry Development Pastor.
- Lead and manage the First Impressions teams, including greeters, ushers, and information desk volunteers. Utilizing the office administrator or CL assistant for help in scheduling volunteers.
- Work closely with the operations team to maintain an inviting and welcoming atmosphere in the church foyer and entry areas.
- III. Additional Responsibilities
- Attend all staff meetings (development, prayer, all-staff, retreat)
- Conduct weddings/funerals along with other pastoral staff
- Work with Community Life team members with connections support
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- A growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Highly organized with strong administrative skills with the ability to oversee multiple teams, ministries and volunteers.
- Committed sense of calling to ministry in the local church.
- Minimum of 5 years of pastoral or ministry leadership experience, preferably in a large church setting.
- Effective communicator—written, publicly, and inter-personally.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in managing programs, tracking progress, and handling administrative duties.
- A bachelor's degree, but master's degree is preferred.
- Significant ministry experience.
- Ability to work with a staff and in a team setting.
- Highly motivated and driven.
